Intel: Advance Machine Intelligence

Intel Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner snatches
an apple from the grasp of a robot arm and
hand that can sense objects purely
by changes in the surrounding electric field.

Zachary Drake of Emotiv Systems demonstrates
an interface that monitors external signals
of brain activity with a special headset
and then translates the data into actions
in a basic video game. Here, his angry
expression chases away glowing
sprites in a video game.

Drake makes a gesture to lift parts in a video game.

Jason Campbell, a senior staff scientist with Intel Research,
described devices called catoms that collectively
could be assembled into materials that are in effect programmable.
Here, he holds two basic models.
Intel expects catoms to be miniaturized over time.
Because catoms can communicate and interact
electromagnetically, they'll be able
to take up more or less volume, Intel said,
so that shape-shifting and
color-changing materials can be built from them.

This catom, shown close up, is bristling with electronic elements.
Catom is a Carnegie Mellon University
term standing for claytronics atom.

A shorter catom shows delicate copper wiring.

The Intel robot, called Herb, moves a mug without tipping it.
Had it been full of a liquid, that might have kept
it from spilling--up until the point when the robot
unceremoniously dropped the mug it into its storage bin.

IBM develops audio-masking technology

This primarily benefits all call centers, since this is developed basically for security and privacy purposes. IBM wants "to proactively address a potential threat that can be used in an attack vector in call centers." as stated from J.R. Rao, senior manager of the secure software and services group at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights.

This technology identifies sensitive data and or information through audio recordings and then mask them through white noise, silence or an edited announcement, with this, only authorized personnel can access the said information. This technology has been used already by some call centers but IBM still is still in puzzle if this will be taken as a service for their customers or product.

Bill Gates goodbye in tech-ed keynote

Bill Gates keynote at Tech·Ed Developers conference at Orlando served as a preview of some of Microsoft's soon to be released technology. Some of the mentioned technologies/data oriented products were; the go live edition of silverlight 2, a new data caching technology and a partnership with IBM, the first Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Velocity, a distributed in-memory application cache platform, and a CTP of the Microsoft Sync Framework for Windows Mobile.

“When I think back on the early days of development when we were all programming in DOS, and then take a look at what we can do now with technologies like the .NET Framework, it simply amazes me how far we’ve come,” Gates stated.

He humbly finished the speech and got off the stage with polite applause from the audience.

Twitter, buzzes Online world

First of all, i am not into web development, eventhough i am a newbie blogger (a 1 year in blog? still considering myself as newbie..lol)
But want to share this idea to those who still do not know about Twitter.
As define from twitter itself, It is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Bloggers can use it as a mini-blogging tool

For blogger like me, there are many definitions we can think of but as of now, i define Twitter as:
:140 characters mini blogging
:its a minute online talking for self and friends updates
:creating and expanding online circle of friends
:it will make you a better editorial writer, the briefer the words the better.
:one way of promoting and advertising your blog..LOL

So what's with TWITTER? This cool web application topped some of the Technology news sites last 8 days ago when some of the users or i may say twitterers including ME encountered problem asking why they are always get disconnected and get some error call outs. The reason is that Twitter have encountered Database failure and they are on the process of recovery until yesterday, when Twitter official representative, Jason Goldman, in their support Forum officially stated:

"We are coming back to life now - the recovery took a bit longer than anticipated.
With outages of this type, there is impaired performance after the database recovers. Essentially, it needs to be restored by handling incoming traffic but it takes a while to catch up with demand.
This process is concluding now but the site will be slow for a while longer."

Hmmm... do i hear the word SLOW? Anyways, every applications whether online or not, needs to have more testing or i may say development for it to be reliable and stable. so long live TWITTER! follow me NOW!

Internet Explorer 8 and Its Technical Challenge

One of the issues being raised by some of the IE7 users or even me, is that some of the sites showed in IE7 looked really bad but not with IE6. The reason?

"The reason was that the sites had worked around IE6 issues with content that – when viewed with IE7’s improved Standards mode – looked bad." as stated in microsoft blog.

This is the technical challenge IE team is working on, because for sure what had happened with IE7 and 6 will do the same with IE 8.

"In other words, the technical challenge here is how can IE determine whether a site’s content expects IE8’s Standards mode or IE7’s Standards mode? Given how many sites offer IE very different content today, which should IE8 default to?"

Truely, as a user, i do not like to work with IE7 around, i'd rather love to use IE6 than that. But if this IE8 will work great, why not? Let us give Microsoft a chace.. (lol)..
