Tuesday Tags: Six Quirky Things About Me
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008I was tagged by my new friend Anna of the Fuschia Revolver. I think I did a similar meme years ago but I do not mind doing this again.
The Rules
* Link to the person who tagged you.
* Mention the rules.
* Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
* Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
* Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment to let them know that they’ve been tagged.
My Quirks
1. I enjoy eating apple and orange more when I dip them in patis (fish sauce) or vinegar. Although he doesn’t show it, R gives a grimace whenever he sees me preparing my “potion”. I like the riot of flavors – sweet and sour and salty.
2. I don’t eat beef. No, I don’t have any beef allergies or anything, it’s the smell I can’t stand. However, I do drink fresh cow’s milk and eat burgers and hotdogs (which contain beef), but that’s just about it.
3. I like to sort my things, then re-arrange them, again… and again, until I get tired of arranging and re-arranging, and leave them (for sorting out next time)… in total disarray. I think I am guilty of the ningas cogon mentality, a Filipino term used to describe as a trait of a person who starts something and doesn’t finish it. (WikiAnswers)
4. I never put any lid back on and screw it down. I wasn’t aware of this, R pointed this out to me just recently when I asked him if he finds anything weird about me. He thinks it’s not weird but he finds it strange that I don’t put the lid back on the coffee jar, sugar jar, catsup, toothpaste, etc.
5. Knuckle-cracking gives me relief of some sorts. Some people say it sounds horrible and have suggested other ways to relieve stress. Call me weird or weird (hehe), nothing beats the enjoyable sensation every time I hear that crispy-crack! R makes a funny face every time I do that though it doesn’t bother him at all.
6. Every morning, I leave the house with a pile of clothes on my bed. These are the clothes that I try on, and on, and on, as I prepare to go to work. Before I know it, there is a huge pile of clothes on the bed and still I’m not happy with the way I look. Most of the time I wish I had an office uniform. It would spare me from all the trouble. Sigh.
There you go… that’s me.
Now I want to pass this on to my blogger-friends, namely:

Saturday 9 #005: We Travel Well
Saturday, July 26th, 20081. What part of the world and country do you live in?
- Currently I am based in Southeast Asia, particularly in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am originally from Roxas City, Capiz, which is in the Philippines’ Western Visayas Island.
2. What is the furthest from home that you have been, and where is it?
- The farthest I’ve been is Japan.
3. What travel destination have you enjoyed the most?
- I enjoyed all!
4. What travel destination have you enjoyed the least?
- I can’t say because there’s something new and different in each country I’ve visited. The only thing I don’t like about traveling is when airlines mess up and you end up stranded in an airport without your baggage.
5. Is there somewhere you’d like to visit but have not, and where is it?
- Yes, a lot of places actually - Bhutan, Tibet, Mongolia… I’d also love to go to France and the Czech republic, and also to Maldives where a good friend works.
6. Do you prefer traveling to see historic places or to hit the beach and relax?
- Depends on where you are. I also make sure that I make a trip to the market and I am not referring to the malls. To me, if one wants to discover more insights to the culture and way of life of the country you are visiting, one needs to go and explore the markets. You won’t get disappointed at all.
7. What popular vacation destination have you never considered because you think you’d not like it?
- No destination in particular, but we want to avoid the tourist-crowd as much as possible.
8. Where do you travel to most recently?
- Asia. I am currently here in Phuket, Thailand. Back in December I was in Malaysia and Nepal.
9. Do you like day trip “mini-vacations”?
- Very much. My husband and I do that - just pack a bag and dog stuffs, toss them in our trusty, old Pajero and we’re on the road.
Friday Fill-ins #003
Friday, July 25th, 20081. I believe whatever doesn’t kill you makes you live longer? *lol*
2. If you’re good at something, don’t do it for free.
3. Why so serious?
4. Something is out there, it’s the new RV!
5. If my life were a sitcom, it would be titled My Life is a Sitcom.
6. Sitting on my back porch [if you don't have one, use your imagination] I see the bright stars over the clear sky and the sea dotted with flickering and bobbing lights from the fishermen’s boats.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to pizza and movie night, tomorrow my plans include doing the laundry and Sunday, I want to watch the Dark Knight at the Central Festival Mall cinema with my husband!
Friday Fill-ins #002
Friday, July 18th, 20081. If I could be a fly on the wall I would chitchat with the other flies. *lol*
2. Jealousy is a waste of time.
3. When I see a shooting star my wish would be that I see more of them.
4. I’d rather be listening to the voices in my head than (instead of) politicians any day!
5. Certain songs when I hear them make me wanna scratch my head.
6. If time were in a bottle I would save every day.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to a good movie, tomorrow my plans include going out with friends to see Phuket town and Sunday, I want to spend a quiet time with my husband!

Saturday 9 #004: At the Beach
Saturday, July 12th, 2008This is very timely, my husband and I are in Phuket right now. Related post here.
1. Do you plan to be at the beach this summer?
- Yes, we are already in Phuket!!
2. Do you have a favorite beach?
- Too many favorites to mention!!
This is our first time in Phuket and we haven’t been to the beach yet as my husband has urgent tasks to do. We are staying here for a month, so there is no rush
Back in Cambodia, my husband and I love Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island), which is just off the Gulf of Thailand. It’s just a tiny island, with less than 20 families residing, white sand, turquoise waters, fresh seafood and a great sunset.
When I went back to the Philippines for a short stay, my parents took me to Virgin beach just outside the city. I was amazed at what I saw:
Now tell me who wouldn’t be?
I love it there - it is still pristine, left untouched by commercialism.
3. How old were you on your first beach trip?
- I don’t remember, but we live close to the beach and my family is a beach-loving bunch. We were always at the beach on weekends.
4. Did your folks own or rent a cottage at the beach?
- We rent a cottage.
5. Have you or would you bring your kids to the same beaches you went to as a kid?
Of course, we will… all we are waiting for now is to get pregnant.
6. What type of bathing suit do you wear at the beach?
- In Cambodia, people are conservative so I just wear a shorts over my swimsuit.
7. Do you have favorite food you like to eat at the shore?
- Nothing in particular, but I when we were kids, my mother would prepare an appetizer that’s everyone’s favorite - green mangoes and bagoong dip (it’s shrimp paste fried in garlic, tomatoes and and lots and lots of chili). Chicken and pork barbies are also popular foods eaten at the shore.
8. Do you have a favorite drink you like at the shore?
- Buko (young coconut) juice
9. When is the next time you will be beach bound?
- Whenever we have long holidays here in Phnom Penh, my husband and I head to Kep where Koh Tonsay is. Probably the next time we will be beach-bound is on September, for the Pchum Ben holidays.

2. Ice is the first thing I see when I open my refrigerator.
3. I never leave home without my bag.
4. If I were a condiment, I would be a red chilli because I am hot. *lol*
5. Queue-jumping (or people who don’t fall in line) is really high up on my list of pet peeves.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to a nice dinner with my husband, tomorrow my plans include sightseeing in Phuket town and Sunday, I want to go shopping!
Friday’s Feast #003
Friday, July 11th, 2008I am participating again in the Friday’s Feast meme after a loooong time of absence. I hope old friends will find me here, and if not, I hope new ones will come. Here goes:

When was the last time you had your hair cut/trimmed?
- The last time I had my hair cut was in November last year. I promised myself I’d get it trimmed monthly, but never got to it. Now it’s already July and my hair is now below my shoulder level and in dire need of a trim. Before coming to Phuket, I keep on reminding myself to have it cut but never did… I have to do it soon or else, scissors will come flying in my direction.
Soup
Name one thing you miss about being a child.
- Not having to worry about anything, carefree and innocent
Salad
Pick one: butter, margarine, olive oil.- Butter, hands down!! Love it dripping off on corn, hot pan de sal (Filipino bread), pancake, etc…
Main Course
If you could learn another language, which one would you pick, and why?
- It’s gotta be French!! Aside from the fact that it’s very pleasing to the ears, learning the French language will also help me clinch my dream job.
Dessert
Finish this sentence: In 5 years I expect to be…
… a PDC (Participatory Development Communication) expert working in another country and a mom.
