Cross Eyebrows

Published by texas_sweetie under , Personal, motherhood

Oh my mama mia!! My baby is a big girl now,she now knows how to say ""nnnnnndinggg" when she cries of hunger.Sounds like she is calling her lola in the Phippines for my mother's name is Andring. It makes me laugh when she does that.It could be the first word she utter, that if you can call it a word?

Another thing I notice about her is that she loves crossing her eyebrows. So cute to look at,with her golden brown eyebrows crossing looking just so funny and amusing.I believe she got the mannerism from me because I have never seen my husband doing it.I myself often do it.I don't know I am just used to doing it even if I don't mean to.

Of Pens, Pencils, and Markers

Published by Amadeo under , Hobbies And Pastimes

Writing has been with man most probably as early as when he learned to walk on two feet. It may have simply started as clumsy etchings on the sand or any soft surface using sticks or fingers, but we know how thoroughly inclined man is now with regard to scribbling. So engrossed or dedicated as to find time and resource for it even when doing something very personal. Maybe like relieving oneself? Many cannot help playing with their hands clasping whatever is available writing on walls and wherever pen, pencil, paint, or marker can reach and take hold. The many public bathrooms are wordy and graphic testimonies to this proclivity.

And writing implements have gone through a lot of evolution even with just our modern times, from the ink-dipped quills, to the more lasting and convenient fountain pens, to cheaper graphite pencils, and now, the explosion of the utilitarian ballpoint pens made famous and popular initially by the popular French brand BIC. Ball pens are now so cheap and common, they can be found literally everywhere. On the moon, too? Oh, Yeah! “Neil Armstrong and crew would have been trapped there had Buzz not improvised by jamming a ball point pen into the switch's hole to activate liftoff.”

Up steps lingeriediva.com to rescue the situation, with online shopping and a really comprehensive selection of lingerie items. Repeating Dreams

Published by texas_sweetie under , Personal

Two nights in a row that I dream of two people in my age about us talking and hanging around together.Their faces were so clear that I could recognize them easily when I am awake. They say when you dream of someone, that someone is always thinking of you. I don't agree with it because it is just impossible that the two people in my dreams still remember me for it has been decades since we last seen each other.

I dreamed of my classmates in my elementary days.Rumulus and Jofil were my classmates. Rumulus were my crush. As in I was so crazy about him before,he just looked very handsome to me,white skin, red lips, carries his dress well and most of all a nice guy. Jofil was my friend who was his buddy. In my dream we were just talking as classmates and I felt very shy to my crush though I felt happy because I saw him.

I don't know why I dreamed these guys for it has been such really long long years for us to remember each other.

US Made ‘Memory Foam’ Beds

Published by arlene under

Bedinabox is a great idea, you end up with a bed made of US made memory foam that has an advantage over previous older foams, in that it does not soften with heat, or harden when cooler. They have a good selection of mattress foundations, bed coverings, andadjustable beds as well. The main advantage for me though, compared to my current bed, is that the memory foam at bedinabox.com is pressure-relieving.

Controversial Arroyo EO 464: To Lift Or Not To Lift?

MANILA, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 29, 2008) – Malacanang on Friday said the legal team recently formed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to study the recommendation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to lift Executive Order 464, has reached a consensus.

Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said the legal team would meet with representatives of the CBCP probably next week to discuss the Palace position on the proposed abolition of EO 464, according to the official Philippine News Agency.

"On our end, yes (we’ve reached a consensus) but we have to meet with representatives of the CBCP," he said without disclosing what the legal team agreed on.

"We already have a stand on this subject to discussion with the bishops," he said. "We will brief you as soon as the meeting takes place."

The influential CBCP issued a pastoral statement on Tuesday evening, after an emergency meeting called amid growing protests, many of these joined by clergy and religious, brought about by the botched national broadband network (NBN) deal controversy.

In the pastoral statement issued last Tuesday, the CBCP sought the abolition of EO 464 and for the President to allow her subordinates to reveal the anomalies in government, particularly on the allegedly tainted NBN contract forged with China’s ZTE Corp., "without being obstructed in their testimony no matter who is involved."

In recommending for the abolition of EO 464, the CBCP noted "so that those who might have knowledge of any corruption in branches of government, may be free to testify before the appropriate investigating bodies."

It also asked the Senate and the Ombudsman to use their distinct power to fight corruption; called on media to be objective in their reporting; and encouraged the creation of a "culture of truth and integrity -- the new version of people power."

"We are convinced that the search for truth in the midst of charges and allegations must be determined and relentless, and that the way to truth and integrity must be untrammeled, especially at the present time when questions about the moral ascendancy of the present government are being put in question," the CBCP statement said.

Malacanang earlier said there should be safeguards to government officials appearing before the Senate should EO 464 as recommended by the CBCP in their pastoral statement.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the legal team is studying the possibility of scrapping EO 464.

He however, stressed the team wants to ensure that there should be "safeguards" for executive officials appearing before Senate inquiries should the Order be scrapped.

Ermita said the team will submit its recommendation to the President next week.

RP Leader Unfazed By Protests

MANILA, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 29, 20080 - President Gloria Arroyo remains in control of her embattled government as 15,000 demonstrators trooped to the streets and demanded for her resignation.

They accused Arroyo of corruption over the failed national broadband network deal with ZTE Corp. of China that opposition politicians claimed is flawed and overpriced.

But for Arroyo, Friday is just another busy day.

Government media said Arroyo put a full day’s work and in her first official schedule of the day, the President inducted the new members of the executive directorate of the 235-strong Lady Municipal Mayors Association of the Philippines (LMMAP) at the Heroes’ Hall in Malacañang.

The mayors pledged their full support for the President.

Arroyo also inducted the new set of officers and directors of the People Management Association of the Philippines, and the Metro Manila Federation of Environment Multipurpose Cooperatives.

She later motored to the Quirino Grandstand in the Luneta park in Manila for the soft opening of the Manila Ocean Park, the Philippines first state-of-the-art "oceanarium".

Arroyo also traveled to Meycauayan City in Bulacan province where she inaugurated the Nestle Business Service (NBS) Asia–Oceania-Africa (AOA), a new corporate entity of the global Nestle Group,
She then proceeded to the inaugural drive-through the Meycauayan Bridge in also in Meycauayan. From there, Arroyo went to Sta. Maria town in Bulacan for the groundbreaking ceremony of a two-storey four-classroom Sta. Maria Central School building.

It’s Good to be Back

THREE DAYS---I only lasted for three days. I thought that I can turn my back on this 'blogging thing' but I was wrong. Yeah, pathetic, ain't it? I was pretty sure that I wanted to quit blogging but that was three days ago. Now, I don't think anything or anyone can take away blogging out of my system. A blogger will always be a blogger. In short, adik! Haha!

I would like to welcome you all to my new home. I shelved my last blog, by the way. So now, I am starting anew. Another shot a blogging. I hope I'd make it right this time.

Make the SMART Choice!

No, this isn't a paid advertisement for Smart Communications. I wish it is but it's not. I would like to thank Smart for doing a pretty nifty job on installing my new broadband connection just this afternoon.

At exactly 3:30 this afternoon I applied for a Smart Broadband connection. The CSR told me to expect at least three days before the connection can be set up. When I was still on the jeep, on my way home, I was surprised to receive a call from Smart saying that they are all ready to install my internet connection. The contractors arrived shortly after I got home. And then, Presto! May internet na uli ako! Yipee! Inuman na! Haha!

It’s Not That Simple Anymore

In the light of the current news (and Public Affairs) in the Philippines, I am not apathetic, but I would just like to say that it's not that simple anymore. After all the political troubles that we have experienced, it is only at this point in our history that we are truly in chaos.

It has been an 'accepted truth' that politicians in the Philippines are corrupt to the core. And all presidents have had their issues and scandals. But why was it only Marcos who was thrown out of the country? Moving closer to the present, why couldn't Erap escape the scrutiny? Yet today, why can't we push GMA out of the seat?

In a parallel situation, a riddle was told to two different age groups: kindergarteners and working adults. 90% of the children got the answer to the riddle while not one single adult answered it, proving that the more one knows about something, the more complicated it seems to get. Similarly, the mindset of the Filipinos are evolving.

A classmate of mine said that the People Power we know is driven mainly by emotions. In an ideal world, the People power means that the whole of the people unite for a certain cause. But this is not the ideal world. What are we really looking at? Does this throng of people really represent the country?

My boyfriend said he would take the streets when Ateneo did.  I asked him if he was comparing it with the hype of the previous People Power he experienced, and if he felt the nostalgia.  He answered yes.  My point is that we're a very nostalgic race.  We get very attached to certain things, or events, as proven by our popular art and culture.  If that is what's driving us, then I rest my case.

In the previous People power, because of the heightened emotions, things ended rather premature. A professor said he had endured a lot of beatings during that confrontation, but it only resulted to this (the current state of the nation). Did we charge forward only to fall off a cliff? We as a nation, are experiencing more as the years pass. Instead of charging blindly forward, we have learned to think, even a little.

The University of the Philippines has always been known to be very involved with issues regarding the country. UP has been considered synonymous to activists. There is much noise outside the classroom calling to join in the rally, and someone stands to close the door and shut out the noise. Why are we here, and not out there? Compared to the private universities in Metro Manila, we seem apathetic. But has activism really faded from the UP student's blood? Possibly. But intelligence and criticism remain.

I realize that it is only now that we have really experienced chaos because we are confused. The current kaleidoscope of events has caused us to look into our very cores: our standards of morality. We Filipinos are not used to looking at our own selves and admitting our mistakes. But because of what is happening, we are forced to evaluate our own principles. This is the appropriate situation to say we are rocked to the core. We reluctantly ask "What is it we should really fight for? Up to what faults can we tolerate?"

Presently, Truth is the new slogan. It is so easy, so safe, to say "I am fighting for truth" or "We want the truth". To be fair, I am not bashing any group or person who claims this, but what is it you guys really want? Why choose something so abstract, so absolute? My truth is not yours, and your truth is not mine. So if it is truth we are really looking for, then we can never find it in the government, or the People Power.

Why are we staying in the backstage? Surely not because we're tired. I believe in the Filipino people. We are becoming more critical, and more intelligent. "Tama na, sobra na ." Then what? We have learned from our previous actions that taking to the streets and making a president step down is not the end of our problems. We know more now that what we did then.

I resent that we are called apathetic, when I could be working three times more than you, searching for answers to problems your generation has caused.

Iskolar ng bayan, ngayon ay lumalaban.

Muslim Groups Assail Gov’t “Terrorists” Hysteria As Anti-GMA Rallies Begin

President Gloria Arroyo prays.

COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 29, 2008) – A Muslim human rights organization on Friday assailed Philippine authorities for using so-called “terrorists” hysteria every time there are anti-Arroyo street protests.

The Suara Bangsamoro, an umbrella organization of human rights and civil society groups, said the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines have been making pronouncements about impending attacks by the local Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiya, an Indonesian terror group tied to a string of bombings in Jakarta and Manila.

Philippine police chief Avelino Razon on Friday said they arrested a suspected foreign terrorist believed plotting terror attacks in Manila. Razon made the announcement the same day as huge anti-Arroyo protesters gathered in the capital to demand for the President’s resignation over corruption allegations.

“We have arrested a foreigner suspected of plotting terror attacks, including an assassination on the president,” Razon said.

The Philippine military this week also said that the Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiya and the communist New People’s Army rebels are plotting to bomb civilian targets in Manila. The military also made the same warning last week days before anti-Arroyo protesters held a huge rally in Manila.

“We cannot anymore stomach the use of the police and military the ‘terrorist’ hysteria in a bid to make Arroyo look like a target of terrorist killing in the midst of a mammoth interfaith rally calling for her resignation,” Amirah Lidasan, national president of the Suara Bangsamoro, said.

Opposition and civil society groups demanded Arroyo’s resignation after the president and her husband, Jose Miguel Arroyo were both linked to alleged scandals involving the flawed and overpriced national broadband network deal with China’s ZTE Corporation.

The president admitted the deal was flawed and cancelled the contract five months later after the scandal broke out. She and husband denied any wrongdoings.

Hundreds of students in Zamboanga and General Santos cities also marched on Friday, many demanding for Arroyo’s resignation. Some 200 students from Mindanao State University in General Santos held a rally and demanded Arroyo to step down.

More than 500 students from different colleges in Zamboanga also gathered at the Ateneo University in Zamboanga where they attended an interfaith forum. They denounced corruption in government. Many lighted candles and demanded Arroyo’s resignation.

The Inter-religious Solidarity Movement for Peace in Mindanao has joined calls for truth and clean, corruption-free society.

“Our country has constantly scored high on the scales of corruption in Asia and the world. As a people, we have seemingly become habituated to the culture of sleaze and dishonesty in the way that many of our leaders carry out their supposed duties to the people.”

“In these days we have again become flooded with these exact same stories of corrupt transactions happening in high places. Information on the blatant manipulation and obstruction of the truth on the NBN-ZTE Project has implicated very important government officials, including the President of this Republic and her family,” it said in a statement. You can give, give, and give love, and the best part is that you do not expect it back in return. You are generous enough. Seeing things in a practical light is what remains the best trait of you guys.
